Dana Why just dropped the WTF jam of the year “Jersey Devil” and its accompanying head trip of a music video are both equally parts bizarre and startlingly good. Trying to pigeonhole Dana Why’s sound into genres or even planes of existence, would be an exercise in futility. Imagine rock music, filtered through the lens of avant-garde pop, but played by a mad scientist…on drugs. The guitars get heavy, the bass gets funky, the drums are buoyant, the vocal harmonies are out of this world, there are bits of electronic beeps and boops, rad synthesizers, and what sounds like a saxophone? This track literally has everything…and that’s just the song! The ultra-cinematic live-action meshed with animation music video is a whole other beast you need to see to even attempt to comprehend.
