CHEROKEE DEATH CATS’ “GIRL OR BOY” IS QUICK AND DIRTY POP, GARAGE AND ROCK
The new single, “Girl or Boy,” isn’t as outrageous or crazy as their band moniker: Cherokee Death Cats. Whatever that means or is?! But it does get your attention. Maybe that’s the point…
One thing is for sure. This killer song rips hard and fast as a truly good rock song does. “Girl or Boy” sounds as if it was composed on the spot over a full-on drinking session. The Anglo/Swedish duo of Bea Persson and Rat Westlake infuse it with a lot of kick-ass attitude and swagger vocally and instrumentally on the rough and tumble track. “Girl or Boy” utilizes blazing guitar riffs and live electronic beats to give the single a modern and retro edge.
The lyrics are a bit vague and ambiguous. If you read between the lines, the single could be about gender fluidity or confusion. It does add an element of mystery and intrigue to the song with a brutal rocking backdrop. For these reasons alone, this single requires repeat listenings.
