“CAST NO LIGHT” BY BOOK/SPIRIT IS BOTH PROFOUND AND ADDICTIVE

Book/Spirit has noticeable musical skill, and intellectual creativity to boot. It’s one thing to have a university degree’s worth of music theory knowledge in your back pocket, and an entirely different one to know how to implement your ideas with said knowledge in your original work.

In an era that is overly saturated with social media-friendly 2-minute-max songs, Book/Spirit has dared to be different, reminding audiences of how special a good, old-fashioned 6-minute banger can be.

Sonically, they teeter between Cavetown indie-rock and Pink Floyd shoegaze. Guitar solos reign in their rightful place as king, and fuzzy distortion drives everything home.

Of course, “Cast No Light” isn’t just remarkable because it’s so lengthy. The real magic lies within the fact that you can’t tell you’re listening to a 6-minute track. Every second flows by naturally, immersing you in the world Book/Spirit is establishing. This song sounds a lot like your favorite fantasy novel series.
