CAROLINE ROMANO’S NEW SINGLE “BODYBAG” IS PERFECTLY RESONANT

Many forget that coming-of-age often hits in your twenties, but not Caroline Romano. Her new song “Bodybag” is “Drivers License” for those in their 20s since we are all figuring it out, too. Romano’s lyricism is perfectly descriptive, and Danen Reed Rector’s production is exactly what the song needed to push Romano toward superstardom. I feel lucky to hear this track before anybody else.

There is a current desire within many artists to blend genres, taking elements of rock and pop to elevate previous forms of pop-rock. But the synth work and the build with the guitars in the pre-chorus establish something entirely new.

Romano’s vocal performance is strong but utilizes subtle nuances to express intense emotions. Her annunciation emphasizes certain lines, veering away from the cursive singing of the 2010s.

Adulthood is messy but adventurous, and “Bodybag” encapsulates these shared experiences. One listen, and the “Bodybag” chorus will be stuck in your head for a week.

You can’t say I didn’t warn you.
