"CAKE" BY YUNE IS YOUR NEW FAVORITE HIDDEN GEM

Yune proves that anything is possible when your song has a killer bassline. It is arguably the most noticeable production element, though there’s a lot to unpack here–in the best way imaginable. The group has taken different sonic elements from vastly different genres, combining them to make something incredible.

You’re engaged from the first few notes, as the “wolf” howls to guide you into the rest of the track, which is guided largely by distorted guitars and punchy, moving bass. The guitar’s distortion is very shoegaze-coded, but the rest of it veers away from those expectation goalposts to keep listeners on their toes.

This song is fun and playful, but clearly carefully curated. It takes a certain level of expertise to know which elements of genres to pull from when you’re crafting your own work. Yune has done just that, and hopefully, there is more where “Cake” came from.
