BRIAN MARK SERENADES US IN DEBUT SINGLE “SEEIN’ STARS”
Brian Mark released his debut single, “seein’ starz,” a slow and mellow song that explores the dizziness of love. It’s led by a melancholic acoustic strum that is simple yet catchy.
For his breakout single, it’s a pretty solid start. His vocals are whispery and impactful, as they detail the confusing nature of romance. Lyrics that display feelings of yearning and reminiscing guide the track. I’d like more emphasis on the vocals; it seems Mark needs to grow a bit as an artist to showcase them loud and proud. He is almost embodying a slurring emo-rap style, which works well for the dark style he’s going for.
The overall song progression is formulaic, yet it remains hypnotic and dreamy. It manages to provide a nice break during the midway point, where Mark’s voice echoes in harmony with a far-off distorted guitar. I’d love to hear more switch-ups like this throughout the song to break it up.
Another shining point in the track comes at the song’s conclusion, where Mark showcases his vocals with a dramatic rendition of “my heart.” He ends it in a very The Cure-style finale.
It’s a great start; I feel production needs to be focused to achieve a tighter sound while still maintaining that flurry feeling. I see strong things coming in the future for Brian Mark, especially if he continues down the road of slow-building songs.
