BLUE LUPIN'S NEW SINGLE "SURFACE OF THE SUN" IS BRINGING BACK WHIMSICAL 90S GOTH MUSIC

We WILL be meeting Blue Lupin at the “Surface of the Sun”. Her new single has a 90s whimsical, dream pop, goth sound to it that makes me want to run around a foggy field wearing a vampire-inspired dress. With influences like Cocteau Twins, Big Thief, and My Bloody Valentine, Blue Lupin has created her image and sound to resemble an era of music I so desperately want to relive.

With lyrics like “Do you love me when I’m not around?” Lupin touches on the topic of toxic relationships and the constant need for secure validation in a relationship. Relatable and honest, the song reminds me of the flower-picking game I played as a child, saying, “He loves me, yes. He loves me not.” Lupin’s lyrics and ability to create a grunge, ethereal dream pop sound have its listeners jumping on their beds, singing into their hairbrushes.

I think we are long overdue for a resurgence of whimsical goth music like Mazzy Star and Portishead. Blue Lupin might be the first step in this direction.
