BEE EIGEN’S DEBUT FOUR-SONG EP ‘SANGUINE’ DELVES INTO PERSONAL THEMES WITH INNER UNFLINCHING STRENGTH AND HONESTY
On the surface, Bee Eigen’s four-song EP, Sanguine, seems like something soft and light flowing on a cloud of gentle, calm vocals accented with melodic smooth guitar lines. Like most Lilith Fair lite. But there is something much more profound and striking going on. This queer indie folk artist is letting the listener literally into her life. Thus sharing her most intimate moments captured over the past three years. Eigen ruminates on how her identity has changed, motherhood, and dealing with her mental health challenges. Though the mood can be a bit dark and melancholy on the EP, one gathers while listening to the material, and there is an illumination at the end of the tunnel. Also, there is every reason to believe Eigen can and will heal her past wounds and, therefore, go on to find hope and peace within. “Incredible Nothing” is, in essence, a ballad with elements of pop and folk. “Incredible Nothing” is remarkable for its sweet, tender textures anchored by a lovely melody. There are very subtle hooks that draw one in. Eigen is a master at tapping into her rawest and most emotionally sensitive emotions to allow you into her inner world. The song is ephemeral and ethereal. “Cake” makes a more potent impression with the driving and more robust sound of more pronounced guitar chording and vocalizing. “Aquarium Blue” again focuses on the personal as she becomes vulnerable and exposes deep emotions. The song is intimate as Eigen gives more insight into her fractured psyche, sharing her fears and anxieties. And finally, “Bugs At McNear” is a more effervescent folk sonic palette at play. This track is powered by hope and overcoming obstacles to come out on the other side as a stronger and more self-aware person. Bee Eigen is an interesting emerging artist with an eye for emotionally charged, insightful, and in-touch lyrics. They move the listener on a very human level as Eigen reflects on life experiences that are very relatable and real. “Sanguine” provides optimism and inspiration so that people can get through the most challenging times. In turn, they emerge more substantial and more present in their minds to be their best selves. Bee Eigen’s star is just beginning to rise, and people will take notice because she has come to a place of authenticity and sincerity in her craft of songwriting.
