ARCADE FIRE ATTEMPTS TO ENCHANT THE FORUM AMID SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS

“Age of Anxiety” was the opening selection for Arcade Fire this past week at the Kia Forum. From the first verse to the last chord the crowd sang every word.  With a dedicated fanbase, the entire concert is a sing-along, everyone knows every word. In a venue like the Forum, there is so much space to fill, not every artist is up to the task.  It takes a unique skill set to keep a crowd captivated on a stage that size.

The larger-than-life disco ball in the center of the floor added some extra flair to the performance,

The multi-instrumental band filled the space with a mix of baroque pop, indie rock, and emo rock. This concert comes in the midst of sexual misconduct allegations against lead singer Win Butler, to which there has been a mix of support and distancing from the artist and the band alike. These allegations are partially to blame for the show being rescheduled, and Beck no longer being the opener for the tour stop. Given the current state of things, the show had a dampened luster. Music has a way of bringing people together, even in times of turmoil.
