APRICOT INK GOES DOWNTOWN ON THE HOT “VIBEY BARBIE”

Sara, who heads the project of Apricot Ink, a moving collection of musicians and producers, has pretty much admitted she is done with men and that “they bore her” in the title track and the same name of the upcoming EP, Vibey Barbie. Also, a Barbie vibrator was a motivating factor.

There is a sexual awakening going on here. Women are the object of her desire and the main course, so to speak. The love, if you want to call that, is modern and lays bare her candid, confessional desire. “Your body tastes line drugs” is the sensual refrain. So, there is an addictive element here. This reviewer, for a moment, said to herself, ok, thinking, “I smell sex and candy” - Marcy Playground. Clever, ok.

But back to “Vibey Barbie.” Sara pretty much says she’s the woman’s “submissive” as well. Barbie is the dominant person and holds all the cards here. Like a female Ken, but not? The emotional, erotic tide is strong, and she is swept up in it as she rides “on a wave, “going up and down.”

The sultry song is warm, hypnotic, and dreamy alt-R&B lite. Apricot Ink may very well have coined a new term for the genre of music: “Wibbly Wobbly Pop.”

“Vibey Barbie” capitalizes everything Barbie in the media and movies. The timing couldn’t be better to release this sinewy single with the name Barbie in it. It conjures many striking and compelling visuals in one spicy and saucy track.
