Los Angeles rockers Anti-Spirit have a crushing new single, “Cut Me Out,” ready to devour your headphones and blow out your car speakers.
Channeling the raw energy of hardcore, the wailing distortion of grunge, and the anything-goes attitude of alternative rock, Anti-Spirit thrives on the edge of losing control, yet somehow always lands on its feet.
Their latest offering, “Cut Me Out,” perfectly captures what makes this band tick. In-your-face guitars and abrasive, screaming vocals collide with a pummeling rhythm section, featuring Converge drummer Ben Koller behind the kit. But beneath all that noise and aggression, there's a surprising amount of melody and some seriously infectious hooks.
It's a clever balancing act, delivering enough heaviness to satisfy metalheads while packing a punch that could easily win over rock radio listeners.
And despite its crushing sound, “Cut Me Out” never feels overly bleak or weighed down. Quite the opposite. When the guitar solo kicks in around the 1:20 mark, it feels like the party is just getting started.
It's loud, heavy, and has just the right amount of attitude. Anti-Spirit makes absolute sonic destruction sound like a damn good time.
