“ALL FOR NOTHING” BY SUCKER PUNCH IS INFECTIOUS PURE POP-PUNK
Pop-punk is a picture-perfect midsummer soundtrack, and Sucker Punch has done its homework, curating an authentic yet recognizable pop-punk sound. Fans of State Champs and Mayday Parade would love adding Sucker Punch’s new single, “All For Nothing,” to their hot girl summer playlists. This catchy banger is quintessential New Jersey pop-punk; I’m not sure what’s in the water by the Jersey Shore, but I hope it continues whatever it does to establish heavy-hitter scenesters throughout generations.
“All For Nothing” is catchy without being overbearing. It falls into “Dear Maria” levels of recognizability without the constant worry of being overplayed years later since it stands in a league of its own. Sucker Punch would do well on a bill with Heart Attack Man, as their complementary sounds would get crowds excited.
In true pop-punk style, “All For Nothing” is perfectly pessimistic, blending cynical lyrics with a melody people can relate to. The gritty vocal stylings scratch an itch in the brain, serving as an ode to the group’s strengths.
Similarly, the instrumental doesn’t feel over-produced, which is an aspect that many up-and-comers face. Choosing to play music their way will allow Sucker Punch to soar to new heights, with as many distortion pedals as they can fit in the van.
