ALBUM REVIEW: BOBBY SHOTS - ‘THE MIND OF BOBBY’
It's not every day a heavily-focused rock publication goes out on a limb and dabbles in pop music. Not that it's unconstitutional or anything, but we know what we excel in. Yet we've been known to make exceptions, and by god, we found ourselves an exception worthy of an entire album review in ‘The Mind Of Bobby.’
Named Bobby Shots, the pop maestro has been writing music for the more significant part of 25 years - that itself should be enough to entice you.
The album starts with a space-like overtone of a man stating that they used AI to create parts of the album and then spits the message, "When the power of the human mind collides with the power of AI." We all know AI has seeped into every pour of this world, but if artists can use it to jumpstart their creativity, we're all for it.
"My Proclamation" is the first absolute banger on the album. Forceful beats coupled with a gnarly-good guitar riff exemplify Shots' lyrics and makes your energy rise to a fever pitch.
The next track, "All In Baby," is a raunchy anthem about Bobby "getting after" the opposite sex. It has familiar tones associated with Justin Timberlake yet makes it R-rated. This is the track to listen to with your fratboys over a 30-rack.
"Bayou Anything" changes the sound entirely and brings the country into play. It's a curveball out of left field, yet it's written and had us repeating the track repeatedly - wait, are we into the country now? What is happening...?
Hip-hop is alive and well in the song "Who Said." "Tate Ated" finds a female vocalist and pushes her to the forefront of the 1:48 min track.
"I've Been" returns to the county and gets interpersonal singing about how one's self. The chorus is tastefully catchy and lyrically profound.
"Clarity" begins with the soft tones of acoustic guitar, with Bobby Shots' vocals returning to the spotlight. As the track progresses, a toe-tapping beat comes in and solidifies this song as one of the best on the album. Raw emotions and silky smooth acoustic beats will entice and make you look into your mirror.
"Judge Me" is yet another country track, yet this time, there's a comedic flare attached.
"Rocket Ship" is a highly contagious song that makes Shots' vocals take center stage. Lyrically, the track takes you on a visually stimulating 3:22-minute ride. A catchy beat is attached to this song perfectly.
"Get Ready" spits out lyrics like it owns the album. Super fast cadences will impress the listener and cause repeated listens.
The final track on the album, "Vellichor," has Shots' pulling out all the stops and is a high-tempo way to finish off a one-of-a-kind album.
If there was ever an album that takes bits and pieces from almost every genre known to man, this is the one. Shots' made a valiant attempt to take the listener on a sonic journey through time, space, and culture. We look forward to hearing what Bobby's mind comes up with next.
