Wakefield’s beloved indie-rock trio The Cribs have returned after a half-decade of silence with the announcement of their ninth studio album, Selling a Vibe, set for release on January 9, 2026, via Sonic Blew/PIAS. The record marks their first since 2020’s Night Network and signals a new era of reflection and melodic depth for the band.

The album was shaped with producer Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift, Solange, MGMT), and the band leaned into what they’ve called a slower, more considered process. Instead of chasing immediacy, they built songs with melody and intimacy at the core. According to bassist/vocalist Gary Jarman, Selling a Vibe is their most personal album in years, a project driven less by bravado and more by vulnerability. “Did we connect with people? That’s what matters,” he explained, underscoring the emotional weight behind the record.

The first taste of the new album comes in the form of lead single “Summer Seizures.” Accompanied by a video, the track balances wistful guitars with a raw, melancholic tone. Ryan Jarman recalls that the song was born in a New York kitchen, staring out at the hazy heat of summer and contemplating the mixture of nostalgia and volatility the season often brings. That contemplative energy threads through the song, pulling The Cribs further into a space of reflective indie rock rather than pure anthemic punch.

Beyond the album release, The Cribs are gearing up to hit the road again with a short North American run this fall. They’ll storm Riot Fest in Chicago, stop in cities across the U.S., and wrap with a show at Brooklyn’s Warsaw on September 27. For fans who have been waiting years for new material, the return of The Cribs feels like a reward for their patience and loyalty.
