PREMIERE: LIPS SPEAK LOUDER PAY RESPECT TO YEAH YEAH YEAHS IN “Y CONTROL” COVER

Lips Speak Louder channels true sonic energy in an explosive cover of “Y Control” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Almost a year after their album Consolation Prize dropped, the two-piece makes a strong comeback with the single, reinforcing their sharp alt-rock sound.

The band couldn’t have picked a better song to kick off their new releases with. The ethereal sounds from the original song mesh perfectly with the band’s dedication to finding beauty through experimentation. Often compared to the New York band, the duo's cover conveys their respect for their influences.

“We chose to cover Y Control by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs because the chaotic nature of the song felt fitting for the current times. Plus, our rock-duo sound is partially inspired by them,” says Rachel Brandsness. Angela Lese adds, “We’re oftentimes compared to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and covering Y Control felt like an appropriate way to pay tribute to one of our biggest influences.”

“I found myself at one point...going, ‘Wow this feels so cool,’ but that’s just it...Lips Speak Louder ARE so cool,” says Coco Kinnon of Winona Fighter. “Not only did Rachel bring an honest Karen O energy, but the flow of the drums made you think Angela recorded them leaned back in her stool with sunglasses That’s how cooland effortless their rendition is.”

Anybody who knows the original track will know the attitude and finesse it exudes. This cover hits the mark and even adds surf-rock guitars that make for a pleasant complement to the original grainy style. Guitar leads the charge, with piercing motifs that reverberate through your soul. Rachel Brandsness' rich vocal prowess echoes in pleasant harmony with Angela Lese's pounding drums. The pair have a synergy that enhances the listening experience tenfold.

In true tribute fashion, Lips Speak Louder captures the essence and passion of the original track and amplifies them. Their sensual chemistry leaves a lasting imprint of experience and moxie, and leaves listeners eager for new tracks.

Alongside the release, the duo also announced they’ll be performing at Jorts Fest 4 in Nashville on May 22, a festival that has previously featured artists like Laura Jane Grace, Illuminati Hotties, and Gully Boys. The appearance comes just as the band prepares to relocate to their new hometown of Minneapolis, marking the start of a new chapter.

More from Lips Speak Louder is expected soon.
