PORTRAYAL OF GUILT RELEASES NEW SINGLE “TOTAL BLACK”

Texas-based extreme outfit Portrayal of Guilt have returned with “Total Black,” a new single that pushes their already punishing sound even further into darkness and abrasion.
From the opening seconds, the track locks into a suffocating atmosphere. It’s dense, chaotic, and intentionally overwhelming, blending black metal, hardcore, and noise into something that feels more like an experience than a traditional song. The guitars shift between frantic tremolo runs and jagged, feedback-heavy bursts, while the drums keep everything moving at a relentless pace without losing control.
There’s a constant tension running through “Total Black.” It feels like it could fall apart at any second, but never does. That balance between chaos and precision is where Portrayal of Guilt thrives, and this track leans fully into it.
Vocally, it’s just as uncompromising. The delivery is raw and cutting, sitting inside the mix rather than on top of it, which only adds to the track’s oppressive feel. Lyrically, it mirrors the sound, leaning into themes of emptiness and collapse without offering any kind of resolution.
“Total Black” also sets the stage for the band’s upcoming album …Beginning of the End, due out Friday via Run For Cover Records. If this track is any indication, the record is shaping up to be one of their most intense releases to date.
The band is set to take this material on the road as well, with a North American tour kicking off next month, bringing their volatile live energy to a wider audience.
