PLANET PARLOR LEFT NO CRUMBS IN “DENIM DAYDREAM”

Planet Parlor is back with their new dreamy single, “denim daydream,” and it is the epitome of dreampop. Put your headphones on, open your laptop, and get to work with the chill vibes that this song produces.

Right off the bat, images of water dripping over a glistening cave are present. The synths put you in a trance and set up lo-fi vibes that will get an instant spot in your study playlist.

Serious Clairo inspiration can be heard, from the production to the homey vocals that embody the bedroom pop sound. Even themes of floating are present, being “lost in a denim daydream,” yearning for a familiar type of love. What a “denim daydream” is can be left up to interpretation, but to me, it seems to be a type of restlessness that comes from waiting. This agonizing patience is evident in word choices like “sat here” and “puppy eyes,” reflecting an almost blind loyalty.

My favorite part is when the beat slows down, like a fog creeping over the vocals, around the halfway mark. The vocals indulge in a more dark element, utilizing cave-like echoes. While a little drowned out, they fit this edgy part of the song perfectly. This part really reminds me of Crumb, with sedative sounds that may give you the chills.

The track then circles back to the original soft, upbeat vocals, transitioning to the tranquil chorus.

“denim daydream” is four minutes of bliss, marking a new high for Planet Parlor. This is a refreshing take on indie and definitely a must-listen for any dreampop fan.
